Job Description: The Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic at Cairns, a project of the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House Incorporated (a non-profit community legal centre), seeks applications from PLT students or senior law students interested in dynamic hands-on legal experience in our Cairns office.
The Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic assists disadvantaged clients in various areas of civil law, using an innovative model which is integrated with community support services. The student will assist the solicitor and pro bono firms with casework including client interviews, legal research, negotiation with agencies, drafting correspondence and preparing court documents, as well as law reform and community legal education activities.
This is a volunteer position - you will not get paid, but it is valuable experience.
Minimum commitment 20 days, flexible hours
The applicant must have a passion for social justice and excellent communication skills. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to apply.
