The Role
Due to the success and sustained growth of our business, we have a new and exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced Lawyer to join our in-house team as a Legal Counsel. This role will be primarily front-end focussed and will require someone with around 8+ years' post qualification experience. With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have preferably gained your experience either in a relevant engineering/construction in-house role or in a top or medium tier law firm with exposure to major infrastructure projects. 

Reporting to the Australia/New Zealand Manager of Legal and supported by other specialists within the legal team, you will have involvement across a wide variety of projects, ranging from some of the country’s largest major infrastructure projects to smaller consultancy engagements. You will be joining a motivated and collaborative team of legal professionals that are recognised for providing high quality, responsive and commercially practical legal solutions.  

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Undertaking contract reviews and supporting negotiations with clients, partners and subconsultants (including consultancy engagements to D&C contractors, teaming agreements, alliances, joint ventures, etc)
  • Providing legal advice on matters arising in administration of contracts
  • Providing legal advice on contractual issues and claims
  • Advising and assisting with corporate legal matters
  • Educating the business on managing legal risk

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Bachelor degree in Law or equivalent qualification
  • Current legal practicing certificate
  • Member of State Law Society
  • Relevant Construction/Engineering industry exposure and experience
  • High level of relevant legal knowledge
  • Passion/interest in front-end contract negotiations and agreements
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Pragmatic, practical and solution focused approach
  • Solid understanding of relevant Australian Standards and other common industry consultancy contracts
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Desire to be part of a collaborative, high performing team
