Seven Television is the leading free to air capital city television network in Australia and is part of Seven West Media.
A rare opening exists for a lawyer with experience in television or film production to join our Network Production department for a 12 month maternity cover starting in March 2019. This role is based at our offices in Eveleigh and will be intimately involved in all aspects of Seven’s in-house production and development and will report to our Director of Content and Distribution Rights.
Main Responsibilities Include

Provide sound legal advice to the various in-house productions in Australia and overseas;

Drafting and negotiating commissioning agreements and program licence agreements for all of Seven’s platforms, including television and online;

Drafting and negotiating talent agreements and agreements relating to the distribution and acquisition of content globally;

Manage legal areas by identifying challenges, obligations and risks within the production units and new programs in development;

Conducting rights availability searches, managing the registration of program titles and all other aspects of international rights management;

Respond to ad hoc requests for advice from other departments and Seven Group entities;

Involvement where required on M&A and other business projects for Seven’s businesses in Australia and globally.
Essential Requirements

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Law (LLB)

Admitted as a solicitor in NSW

Experience in television and/or film production
-
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, capable of influencing people of all levels and being able to communicate clearly

Highly developed problem solving, negotiation and time management skills

Highly developed oral and written communication skills

Business and commercial acumen
-
Drive, tenacity, attention to detail and results driven attitude
-
Assertiveness and ability to work in high pressure, fast paced environment

Self-starter, capable of working relatively autonomously
Technical excellence in the law is a given and a capacity to provide quick and practical advice and support to our productions department is essential to this role.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated relevant media industry experience.
