We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our highly respected in-house legal team based in Melbourne. The breadth of our business creates opportunities for the team to work on varied and interesting matters across Australia and New Zealand, from Sales and Marketing to Refining and our international businesses such as Castrol and Air BP.

• Reporting to the Managing Counsel, the Legal Counsel will partner with leaders across the business in order to maximise commercial value while minimising and managing legal risk. Core elements of the role will include:
• Client relationship management across a portfolio of businesses, being the primary legal contact
• Provide strategic advice to the business in relation to their commercial activities and transactions
• Assist in structuring, documenting and negotiation of business transactions
• Providing legal expertise on matters which could relate to personal injury, marketing and tender activities, intellectual property or litigation.

About you

• To be successful in this role you will bring some existing generalist commercial legal experience gained in a law firm or in-house legal role, ideally with some exposure to end-to-end litigation. You'll be curious and keen to learn, building on your post-qualification experience by working with subject matter experts within the legal team and across the business. You will have a collaborative approach, working with key stakeholders to influence the best outcome for our business and customers while managing our exposure to legal risk. You will also bring the following experience:
• Ability to identify and manage legal risks;
• Skilled at dealing with routine legal work with minimal supervision;
• Sound drafting and legal research skills;
• Contributes effectively in team environment;
• Able to work with and influence across a diverse portfolio of clients.
