Tennis Australia is the governing body for tennis in Australia and promoter of a number of tennis events including the Australian Open, the Australian Open Series and Pro-tour.
An exciting opportunity exists for a junior to mid level lawyer to join the growing “shared services” area of the legal team at Tennis Australia in the newly created role of Legal Counsel (Shared Services). You will assist in the provision of strategic and timely legal advice to external tennis stakeholders including Tennis Australia’s Member Associations, professional tennis players, clubs, coaches and others. This role has been created due to an increased demand for legal services in this space.
You will have the opportunity to work on an incredibly diverse mix of legal matters, ranging from commercial contracts to sports law, from property and construction projects to dispute resolution work and from corporate governance to privacy and competition. The role also will involve a wide range of general legal advice and drafting work.
You will require a principal practising certificate and have at least 2-3 years post admission experience, including experience in one or more of the following: (i) a mid to top tier law firm, (ii) an in-house environment or (iii) running your own sole practice. You will be able to demonstrate experience across a wide range of legal practice areas – experience in the areas of corporate governance, commercial contracts, sports law and dispute resolution will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role, you will have a can do attitude, with the initiative and resourcefulness to practice in new areas of the law. Indeed, you will thrive on the challenge of practising out of your comfort zone. You will also have excellent communication and time management skills, a positive, happy demeanour and an ability to relate to a diverse client base. Tennis Australia’s values of excellence, humility, loyalty and teamwork must underpin everything you do.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the in-house legal team of one of Australia’s leading sports and entertainment organisations. If you believe you have what it takes, we would love to hear from you.
