About The Opportunity
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is seeking a Senior Lawyer who will have the conduct of complex prosecution and disciplinary matters, lead legal proceedings on behalf of the VBA, actively monitor and evaluate the prosecution and disciplinary function, coach to build team and business capability and deliver outcomes in line with corporate objectives.
Responsible for the carriage of complex prosecution and disciplinary matters on behalf of the VBA allocated by Legal and General Counsel, including examining briefs of evidence and collaborating with external solicitors or barristers to support prosecution proceedings under limited direction.
Provide authoritative and timely legal advice, detailed correspondence, reports, Ministerial briefings and memoranda on a range of general and complex matters including prosecutions, criminal procedure and enforcement, administrative law, disciplinary inquiries, statutory interpretation, legislative reform and court processes.
Actively coach team members and key stakeholder groups to build internal competency and capability across the prosecution and disciplinary functions, fostering a culture of collaboration, engagement and client-focussed delivery.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:
Proven experience advising on and conducting complex prosecutions and disciplinary inquiries.
Sound understanding of administrative law and statutory interpretation principles, with proven ability to apply those principles in the context of complex decision making in a regulatory framework.
Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with experience in providing strong advisory services to support implementation, monitoring and evaluation of legislative reform.

A base salary in the Grade 6 range of $120,692 to $161,511 per annum plus 9.5% super.
