Job Description:

Volunteer solicitors work one evening advice shift on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Applicants may apply in one of four legal areas, in accordance with their skills and experience:

• Police and government accountability (Monday 6:30pm-9pm)
• Employment (Tuesday 6:30pm-9pm)
• International students service and discrimination (Wednesday 6:30pm-9pm)
• Credit, debt and consumer complaints (Thursday 6:30pm-9pm)

Duties

1. Staffing a face-to-face and telephone advice shift on a weekly or fortnightly basis
2. Interviewing clients and providing advice
3. Accurately recording advice given on advice forms
4. Accurately obtaining and recording statistical information from clients
5. Following Public Indemnity Insurance requirements

Requirements

1. A current NSW practising certificate
2. 12 months post-admission experience
3. A high level of communication skills
4. A high level of personal motivation
5. Whilst under supervision, an ability to provide accurate advice in face-to-face and telephone interviews
6. A capacity to be accountable to RLC policies and procedures
7. Sensitivity to diverse cultural and political backgrounds and a respect for multiculturalism and diversity
